1936-ൽ ലാഹോറിലെ ജാത്-പാത് തോഡക് മണ്ഡലിന്റെ വാർഷികത്തിൽ ക്ഷണിതാവായ ഡോ. ബി.ആർ. അംബേദ്കർ ഹിന്ദുയിസത്തെയാകെയും അതിനുള്ളിലെ ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയെയും വിമർശിക്കുമെന്ന് പ്രസംഗത്തിന്റെ ലിഖിതരൂപം മൂൻകൂട്ടി വായിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ സംഘാടകർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സമ്മേളനത്തിൽനിന്നും വിലക്കി. ഒരിക്കലും നടത്താത്ത ആ പ്രശസ്തമായ പ്രസംഗം ’Annihilation of Caste’ (ജാതി ഉന്മൂലനം) എന്ന പേരിൽ അംബേദ്കർ സ്വന്തം ചെലവിൽ അച്ചടിച്ച് വിതരണം നടത്തി. തുടർന്ന് പുസ്തകത്തിന് പല ഭാഷകളിൽ പരിഭാഷകളുണ്ടായി. പിൽക്കാല ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ജാതിവിരുദ്ധ പോരാട്ടങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാം ഊർജ്ജം പകർന്നത് ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ ആശയങ്ങളാണ്. ഇന്ത്യൻ മിത്തുകളിലും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളിലും സാമൂഹികഘടനയിലും ഉൾച്ചേർന്നുകിടന്ന ജാതിയെ തുറന്നുകാണിക്കുന്ന പുസ്തകം.
