Research starts with questions for which a researcher wishes to seek answers. The researcher may be involved alone in this act of seeking answer, or may involve a group or groups with whom the researcher collaborates. Since all institutions of higher learning are also bestowed with the responsibility of training young minds in the appropriate methods of research, a researcher also has the role of a mentor. Each of these aspects requires adherence to some basic ethical practices.
