Geomorphology, a branch of Earth Sciences deals with the study of earth’s configuration and includes description of surface relief features, their spatial variability, the materials constituting them, the processes which govern formation and modification of landforms and evolution of the landscape. It is an interface between the natural processes leading to development of landscapes and human interventions and helps in understanding the future challenges on the surface of the earth.
This book is a result of suggestions received from large number of teachers, students and professionals in the field of geomorphology. It incorporates geological perspective in systematic treatment of landforms and processes in a structured manner for better understanding with examples from India so that the readers are able to appreciate and assimilate the knowledge for proper understanding and usage.
It is targeted as a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Geology, Geography, Environmental Sciences and Civil Engineering of Indian universities and also for advanced data-base seekers at various levels.
Unique features:
• the book is well-structured and covers all major topics of landform-study related processes and products, with illustrative figures and data-studded tables,
• the generally descriptive aspect is separated as far as possible into points and subpoints to facilitate improved assimilation by the readers,
• cites Indian examples with which one may be more familiar and may arouse more interest,
• contains discussion around Indian examples such as Pleistocene glaciations, Indian delta, etc. and
• authored by experts who bring in various perspectives in treatment of the subject matter to promote better appreciation and assimilation.
