Subject(s): DDC classification:
  • 572.802 KOT-B
Summary: Although there are number of Books in the area of Bioinformatics most of these are written for students pursuing postgraduate diplomas in bioinformatics and cater to a specific area in bioinformatics. However , there is a great need for manpower: To develop Algorithms and software, design databases, manage gene banks, protein Banks and banks for Biochemical reactions, to analyze biochemical and 3D Structural data bases, to create mirror sites and project oriented links, to Study genomics, proteomics, protein modeling and Drug designing. This needs inputs from various disciplines as: mathematics, physics, chemistry, statistics, Computer science, information technology, biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacology and Medical sciences. However, a new entrant from these areas gets lost at: from where to begin? What should be his objective? Many words like Chemoinformatics, Drug Designing, and Protein Engineering he has only heard, but are beyond his comprehension. What he needs at this juncture is an introduction to different areas in Bioinformatics, in a way which is understandable to him. The book is written in keeping with the School level Knowledge in physics, chemistry, Mathematics and biology. The person is expected to be computer literate to handle experiments.
